Mintek and the Council for Geoscience (CGS) both entities of the Department of Mineral Resources, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate scientific and technical collaboration in the field of geoscience.
The MoU was signed by Acting CEO of Mintek, David Msiza and CGS CEO, Mosa Mabuza at the CGS in Pretoria. The MoU provides a framework for exchange of scientific and technical knowledge, the undertaking of joint geo-scientific and geo-metallurgical studies, exchange on analytical techniques as well as the enhancement of scientific and technical capabilities of Mintek and CGS
Msiza and Mabuza agreed that “the MoU will help address challenges and needs of the industry as well as deliver on the broader mandate to benefit the country.”
Under this MoU, both institutions will further explore specific areas of mutual interest to collaborate in. This will include collaboration to strengthen areas of research in Geology, Hydrogeology, Geological Resources, Metallurgy, Mineral Beneficiation, Mineral Economics, Small-Scale Mining, Environmental Studies, and Laboratory Practices.
The MoU will further collaboration in scientific exchanges and programmes that effect developmental imperatives of mutual benefit to the parties, and to further strengthen the goodwill and cordial relations between Mintek and CGS.
