The South African Director-General of Science and Technology, Dr Phil Mjwara, and the Chinese Vice Minister for Science and Technology, Xu Nanping, will launch the Joint Research Centre (JRC) on the Development and Utilisation of Mineral Resources at Mintek in Randburg on 14 September 2018.
The establishment of the JRC between South Africa and the People’s Republic of China (PRC) was decided during the recent state visit to South Africa by the PRC’s President Xi Jinping. The research centre will be run by a consortium led by Mintek in South Africa and the Beijing General Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy in China.
