Mintek and CISR Nanotechnology Innovation Centres to host a joint 10th Anniversary workshop
The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Nanotechnology Innovation Centres (NIC) at Mintek and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) will host a joint 10th anniversary workshop from 14-16 October at the CSIR Convention Centre, Pretoria.
Themed “Nanotechnology for Inclusive Growth: From Fundamental Research to Industrial Impact”, the workshop will provide an interdisciplinary forum for Scientists and Engineers to discuss the current status and recent developments of advanced nanostructured materials with a focus on R&D and Innovation and practical applications of these materials.
The event will celebrate 10 years of excellence in nanotechnology research in South Africa. Furthermore, it will provide an opportunity for scientists and engineers to showcase their research on an international platform.
A panel of international experts will discuss and address possible avenues to bridge the gap between R&D and commercialization of research outputs. The workshop will also provide a platform for entrepreneurs and venture capitalists to discuss collaborative research and business developments.
The topics to be discussed include emerging research related to advanced nanomaterials, health, energy and water, and other areas of interest. The workshop will comprise of world-class plenary presentations, keynote and invited lectures, panel discussions, oral and poster presentations, and insightful exhibitions. Papers presented at the event will be published in a credible peer reviewed ISI journal, Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.

About the DST/Mintek Nanotechnology Innovation Centre (NIC)
The NIC is a national facility that is geographically spread across the country and was established at Mintek in 2007 by the Department of Science and Technology. The Mintek NIC activities are aimed at addressing the national priorities highlighted by both the national nanotechnology strategy and national research and development (R&D) strategy. The Mintek NIC structure was built on the foundation of the national system of innovations (NSI) to focus on driving South Africa’s transformation from a resource-based economy towards a knowledge-based economy using nanotechnology.
