A two-day conference was held at Mintek, from 4-5 June 2009,
in celebration of the technology that has been developed by people
associated with Mintek over the past 25 years.
Mintek's president, Abe Mngomezulu, welcomed everyone to this
prestigious event.
Mintek, South Africa's national mineral research organisation and a global
leader in mineral and metallurgical innovation, celebrated its 75th anniversary
in 2009.
Mintek is one of the world's leading technology organisations specialising
in mineral processing, extractive metallurgy, and related areas. Working
closely with industry and other R&D institutions, the organisation
provides service test work, process development and optimization, consulting,
and innovative products to clients worldwide.
A great number of changes have taken place in the minerals industry over the
past quarter of a century since the landmark Mintek 50 conference in
1984, and developments over the past 25 years are specially worthy of attention.
A two-day metallurgical conference was held at Mintek from 4-5 June 2009,
showcasing innovative technology used around the world, presented by top
international speakers, including Mintekkers, past and present, who have made
their mark in industry. Technical presentations were given by industry
leaders and specialists in their respective fields, focusing particularly
on the core technologies supported by Mintek: minerals processing,
pyrometallurgy, and hydrometallurgy, as well as newer areas such as
nanotechnology.
The minerals industry is confronting both significant opportunities and
challenges in the current environment. This conference was a unique
opportunity for everyone in the minerals and metallurgical industry to
renew old contacts and networks, and to reinforce the role Mintek has played
both locally and globally over the past 75 years.
We cordially invite you to join us in our Celebration of Technology, by
taking a look at the proceedings and photographs that are freely available
on this website.
