StarCS’s developers focus on building specialised products for specific processes rather than a general process control solution. This results in a faster commissioning and implementation time of a few weeks as opposed to months. Since StarCS is a versatile, open, plant-wide system, Mintek staff need to know the precise needs of the client. Therefore we work closely with our clients to ensure that our products achieve the overall control objectives and address any specific requirements.
Mintek conducts a feasibility study at the client’s plant. This helps to build credibility, allows for definition of the control strategy and allows us to make accurate predictions of expected performance benefit. A final proposal is then compiled. Commissioning of StarCS takes between 3 and 6 weeks on site and requires involvement from operators, instrumentation staff, production staff, and computer admin personnel and management. Training is provided in the use of StarCS and to ensure understanding of the control and optimisation strategies implemented. StarCS needs to integrate with the plant’s existing instrumentation and automation infrastructure. Customisation for each specific implementation.
