Saudi Arabia’s Vice-Minister for Mining, Mr Khalid Al Mudaifer and Burkina Faso’s Minister of Mines and Quarries, H.E Oumarou Idani visited Mintek earlier this month to discuss potential areas of collaboration to build capacity in these countries’ mineral sectors.
Their visit follows on the bilateral discussions held with the Minister of Mineral Resources of South Africa, Mr Gwede Mantashe during this year’s 25th Investing in African Mining Indaba held in Cape Town.
The ministerial delegation discussed in separate meetings with Mintek, potential areas where Mintek can collaborate with their government institutions to build capacity and knowledge sharing in the exploitation of mineral resources.
Speaking on areas of collaboration with the Bukina Faso delegation, Mintek CEO Dr Molefi Motuku said, “Mintek looks forward to further engagements with Burkina Faso and conclude the Memorandum of Understanding which will set the terms of reference for collaboration.”
The meeting was followed by a tour of Mintek‘s research and pilot testwork facilities, where the delegation engaged with Mintek research experts. This was then followed by a visit to other entities of the Department of Mineral Resources.
