Air heater prototype a step forward towards the demonstration of solar thermal heating

Mintek researchers Sifiso Sambo and Lina Hockaday have published a paper in the PreMa newsletter, which demonstrates the preheating of manganese ores with hot air as part of the larger proof of concept for using concentrating solar energy to preheat manganese ores in the PreMa project.

The Air heater prototype which will be conducted at Mintek in September 2021, is a step forward towards the demonstration of solar thermal heating scheduled to take place in Germany in 2022

PREMA is a Horizon 2020 project aimed at demonstrating an innovative suite of technologies, involving the utilization of industrial off-gases and solar thermal energy to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions from manganese production as a means to obtain sustainable production of Mn-alloys and steel.
