Mintek will on Wednesday, 21 April 2021, participate in the annual World Corrosion Awareness Day to be held at Midrand. The participation will include an exhibition and paper presentation by Marandela Mulaudzi, Research Engineer in the Advanced Materials Division.
Mulaudzi will present a paper titled “Corrosion in Extreme Environments” which investigates several austenitic alloys/coatings used at high temperature in the petrochemical industries under different metal dusting extreme environments (gas mixtures).
Mulaudzi has studied Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, up to PhD at Wits University. His main interest is in the development of alloys, phase diagrams, high-temperature have been presented and published at local and international conferences, and also in journals.
He is currently working on the project for the development of advanced corrosion solutions for metal-based petrochemical and energy industries through research and development. A programme which is under the Ferrous Materials Development Network (FMDN), spearheaded by Mintek as part of the Advanced Materials Initiative (AMI) of the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI).
The Mintek exhibition will showcase corrosion and materials testing capabilities for carrying out a wide range of conventional and unconventional corrosion tests and exposures. These capabilities include Laboratory and field corrosion tests, Electrochemical corrosion testing. High-temperature corrosion (Metal dusting) tests and Sour corrosion testing.
The World Corrosion Awareness Day is organised by the Corrosion Institute of South Africa. For more information on the Corrosion Awareness Day, visit https://www.corrosioninstitute.org.za/category/news/.
