Dr Lucky Sikhwivhilu appointed Professor of Nanotechnology at Univen

Dr Lucky Sikhwivhilu, Mintek researcher in the Advanced Materials Division was appointed as Professor of Nanotechnology in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Agriculture at the University of Venda earlier this year.

 The appointment will enable him to supervise honours, master’s and doctoral students’ research in nanotechnology research independently. He will be invited to deliver special lectures to students.

Professor Sikhwivhilu is passionate about the application of nanotechnology research, he sees it as a development opportunity to tackle societal challenges. “The appointment is expected to enhance collaborative research initiatives to improve the research profile and outputs between Mintek and UNIVEN.”

Prof Sikhwivhilu holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of the Witwatersrand. He has over 15 years of experience in nanotechnology research.  Before joining Mintek he worked for the CSIR National Centre for Nano-Structured Materials (NCNSM). He has held postdoctoral fellowships at Unipress – Institute of High-Pressure Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland. He holds editorial roles for the South African Journal of Chemistry, Advances in Theoretical & Computational Physics, and Current Chinese Science: Nanotechnology. 

He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and is the recent recipient of the prestigious international award (ISSN International Research Awards, IIRA-2022) in association with the World Research Council.  The award is under the category of INTERNATIONAL BEST RESEARCHER AWARD
